The ELEGOO Smart Robot Car V4.0 is the best beginner robotics kit on the market. It packs ultrasonic obstacle avoidance, line tracking, IR remote control, and Bluetooth app control into a well-documented package that actually works out of the box.

Assembly takes 2-3 hours with the excellent illustrated manual and online video tutorials. All tools are included except a Phillips screwdriver. The multi-layer acrylic chassis is sturdy and the pre-soldered modules eliminate the need for soldering skills.

The Arduino Uno R3 compatible board runs clean example code that clearly demonstrates each function. Students can modify the obstacle avoidance distance, line tracking sensitivity, and motor speeds to understand how the code maps to behavior.

Four DC motors with the L298N motor driver provide decent speed and maneuverability on smooth floors. The 18650 batteries (included with charger) provide about 45 minutes of runtime — enough for a good testing session.
