“A competent budget chassis for controlled indoor robotics projects, but upgrade motors and wheels for any terrain variability.”
Our Review
This 2WD chassis delivers solid fundamentals for entry-level mobile robotics. The TT motors provide adequate torque for Arduino/Pi projects, though they exhibit noticeable cogging and require PWM tuning for smooth speed control. The acrylic frame is rigid enough for indoor operation but showed minor warping after aggressive testing. Battery box integration is straightforward, though the included connectors are proprietary rather than standard JST. Wheel grip on tile is acceptable; carpet performance degrades noticeably. I measured ~0.3m/s with standard AA batteries—sufficient for obstacle avoidance projects but limiting for line-following competitions.
What We Like
- Pre-aligned motor mounts require zero calibration
- Acrylic chassis allows easy sensor mounting via existing screw holes
- Compatible with all major microcontroller platforms without adapter boards
Watch Out For
- TT motors lack encoder feedback—dead reckoning accuracy is poor beyond 2 meters
- Plastic wheel traction inadequate on uneven surfaces and inclines >15°
The Verdict
“A competent budget chassis for controlled indoor robotics projects, but upgrade motors and wheels for any terrain variability.”
